Think big bridge, 30 metres above a river, hanging on a rope in mid-air.  It’s airy, it’s intimidating and I am yet to meet someone who hasn’t wanted to do it twice!  If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to actually do what Tom Cruise pretends to do in Mission Impossible, now’s your chance to step over the edge. You’re going to love it!

Where and when?

The abseil is at the Millers Dale Bridge on the Monsal Trail.  Parking is at the  Millers Dale Station Car Park.

The nearest postcode is SK17 8SN but this covers a large area, so you will need to check a map beforehand.  Alternatively, you can enter 53.256145,-1.793788 into Google Maps and you will be pointed to the exact spot.  This is a Pay & Display car park and currently the charge is £3.50 for a half day.

The bridge is a ten minute walk along a flat path – watch out for bikes!  Exit the car park from the far end, away from the old station building and toilet block.

The abseil will run from 2pm to 4pm.  You will be able to do your abseil within an hour but you are welcome to stay for longer.

If you are planning to bring children with you who will not be taking part, you will be directed to a safe viewing area – the top of the bridge needs to be kept clear for abseilers – and asked not to go under the bridge. This area isn’t huge and may have limited appeal for younger kids (!) so you may want to have a back-up plan – you can easily go for a scenic short walk from the bridge, for example.

How can I confirm my attendance?

All you need to do is fill in the consent form and you’re good to go.

It would be extremely helpful if you could get in touch – either using the website or the number below – before the day to let us know what time you are planning to get to the bridge.

Who is running the event?

Andy Stimson is holding the ropes.  He is fully-qualified, experienced, professionally insured and licenced for this event!

How do I donate?

All of the money raised for this event goes to Sure Footing.  All the staff at Sure Footing work for free, so you can rest assured that every penny you raise will be spent meeting our charitable aims.

You can donate online via our page with Give.net and donations can be one-off or set up as a monthly direct debit.  You can also visit the Donate section of our website for more information.

Why am I doing this, again?!

As you may already know, Sure Footing has outward looking (and grand!) aims to bless young people in our region both in sharing the gospel and doing adventurous activities.  But it is in its infancy, and there are all kinds of costs involved in setting it up.  The sponsorship you raise is will form a vital part of making this vision a reality.
